Sweden is known as a hikers paradise with many national parks, hills, and some mountains in the northern part. We were traveling in High Coast (Höga Kusten), which is a world heritage site and has tons of amazing breathtaking views and a trail stretching from Hornöberget in the south to Örnsköldsvik city in the north. The environment along the trail varies and shifts between deep forests, mountain tops peaking above the roads, sandy beaches, crystal clear lakes, steep cliffs, and green meadows with lots of camping sites along the way. The trail, which estimates a total of 128,6 kilometers can take even up to seven days to be completed!
I absolutely adore hiking and did some amazing tracks back when I was living in Germany. However, I am not such a big enthusiast of doing it with small children as there might be some slippery rocks or swamps, therefore, I think that safety is the first priority during activities with children. Hopefully, when both of our girls have grown, we can try to hit some trails! Instead, I went on the trail with a family friend.
Nature was absolutely stunning! When I stepped into the forest, I remembered myself as a teenage girl during biology class learning about all the flora of the forests! Different types of moss covering the stones, such as Iceland moss and star-tipped yellowish-white reindeer lichen could be seen all over the meadows. Growing among the lichens are crowberry, blue heath, bilberry, and dwarf birch.
I saw the red sphagnum moss for the very first time, it was soft and reminded something which can only be seen in underwater reefs.
Wonderful tall and old pine trees covered in spider nests created the sense of the untouched and deserted forest. Here and there, some giant stones reminding some stones stood, reminding of giant Easter eggs. The cherry on top was the breathtaking view to the beach and my beloved Baltic sea. Enjoy my pictures of this wonderful hike!
